Choosing surgery overseas is a significant decision. You deserve clear information about your surgeon, hospital, recovery and the support available throughout your journey.
These answers explain how Destination Beauty and our partner hospitals support patients before, during and after surgery in Thailand.
1. Who are the surgeons and clinicians working with Destination Beauty?
Destination Beauty works with an experienced group of medical and dental professionals, including:- Plastic and reconstructive surgeons
- A facial plastic surgeon and ear, nose and throat specialist
- Bariatric surgeons
- Dentists
- A board-certified dermatologist
2. Are your plastic surgeons board-certified?
Yes. Our partner plastic surgeons are board-certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Thailand. We encourage every patient to review their preferred surgeon’s qualifications, experience and areas of special interest before making a decision.3. Which hospitals perform the procedures?
Surgical procedures are performed at Samitivej Thonburi Hospital and Ruamjairak Hospital. Both are full-service general hospitals with multidisciplinary medical teams, inpatient facilities and intensive care capabilities. The hospital selected will depend on your surgeon, procedure and individual medical needs.4. How is my suitability for surgery assessed?
The process begins with our confidential online evaluation form. You will be asked about your medical history, current health, previous procedures, areas of concern and expectations. Your Destination Beauty representative will discuss your information with an appropriate surgeon. Where suitable, we can arrange a video consultation so that you can ask questions and better understand the preliminary recommendation. Some people are not accepted for surgery because of medical conditions, weight-related risks, unrealistic expectations or other safety concerns. If weight reduction is recommended before surgery, we will explain this respectfully and clearly. The purpose is to reduce surgical risks and support safer healing and a better result. Final approval is always subject to consultation with the surgeon and medical clearance by the hospital.5. When will I speak with my surgeon?
You will have a consultation with your surgeon before surgery. During this consultation, the surgeon will assess you, discuss your expectations and explain the proposed procedure, incision placement, likely scars, realistic outcomes, recovery and material risks. This is an important opportunity to ask questions. You should proceed only when you feel adequately informed and comfortable with the proposed plan.6. How do you decide which procedures can be safely combined?
The decision is made by the surgeon based on your health, medical history, age, weight, procedure combination, anticipated operating time and recovery requirements. It may be possible to combine procedures such as a tummy tuck, breast lift and arm lift during one journey. However, combining several major procedures can increase surgical and healing risks and may require a longer stay in Thailand. A recommendation is not an instruction. You may choose fewer procedures or stage your surgery across separate visits. We also encourage patients considering major surgery to discuss their general fitness for surgery with their GP or specialist before travelling.7. Can I choose my surgeon?
Yes. You may request a preferred surgeon from our partner-surgeon group. Different surgeons have different areas of experience and surgical approaches. Our team can help you identify surgeons whose experience is relevant to the procedure you are considering. The surgeon must also independently agree that you are a suitable candidate.8. What happens if I am not medically cleared for surgery?
Patients with underlying health conditions should speak with their GP or specialist before travelling and obtain any requested medical reports or test results. All surgical patients undergo preoperative testing at the hospital in Thailand. Most patients are cleared without difficulty, but an abnormal result may require additional tests or an assessment by another specialist. If the surgeon or hospital determines that surgery cannot safely proceed, surgery may be postponed, modified or cancelled. Patient safety takes priority over the planned schedule.9. What are the risks associated with my procedure?
All surgery involves risk. The specific risks depend on the procedure, your health, the extent of surgery and whether several procedures are combined. Possible risks may include bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, fluid collection, blood clots, noticeable scarring, asymmetry, changes in sensation, anaesthetic complications and the possibility of further treatment or revision surgery. Your surgeon will explain the risks relevant to your proposed procedure. You will receive consent information and have an opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether to proceed. No ethical surgical provider can promise a perfect result or guarantee that complications will not occur.10. Does Destination Beauty track complications and patient outcomes?
Yes. We record reported complications and review patient outcomes to identify areas where our processes and support can be improved. Complication figures must always be understood in context. Rates can vary considerably depending on the procedure, the extent of surgery, the patient’s health and whether several procedures are performed together. Where we publish outcome data, we aim to explain the period covered, the patients included and how the result was calculated.11. How are complications managed while I am in Thailand?
Your care team will assess the concern and determine the appropriate response. This may include additional wound care, medication, diagnostic tests, review by your surgeon or another specialist, or readmission to hospital. Some complications can require further treatment and a longer stay in Thailand. If this happens, our team will help coordinate your medical care, accommodation and practical arrangements. The exact treatment and any related costs will depend on the circumstances, hospital assessment and applicable terms.12. What postoperative support is provided?
After surgery, you will remain in hospital for the period recommended by your surgeon. Once discharged to the recovery hotel, patients can access a range of support services. Depending on the individual care plan, these may include wound checks, dressing support, nursing assistance and coordination with the surgeon or hospital. We also arrange appropriate social activities and opportunities to meet other recovering patients. These activities are intended to support emotional wellbeing without interfering with rest and recovery.13. How long should I stay in Thailand?
Your required stay depends on the type and extent of surgery. A patient having one procedure may need to stay for approximately 10 to 14 nights. More extensive or combined surgery may require a stay of three to four weeks. Your surgeon and Destination Beauty representative will advise you of the minimum recommended stay. We will not knowingly book a patient who cannot remain in Thailand for the required initial recovery period.14. What happens if I need to extend my stay?
Although most patients return home as planned, complications or delayed healing can make a longer stay necessary. If your surgeon recommends that you remain in Thailand, our team will help coordinate medical appointments, accommodation and other practical arrangements. Patients should plan for this possibility when arranging leave, flights, insurance and personal finances.15. What support is available after I return home?
After returning home, you can contact the Destination Beauty helpdesk with questions or updates about your recovery. Where appropriate, we can share information with your surgeon or medical support team and help arrange a remote follow-up. We encourage patients to provide regular healing updates when requested. We also recommend arranging an appointment with your GP after returning home, particularly following major or combined surgery.16. What are the limitations of aftercare after I leave Thailand?
Once you leave Thailand, Destination Beauty and your Thai surgeon cannot provide hands-on medical care. Services such as physical wound examination, dressing changes, removing sutures, draining a fluid collection, prescribing medication or providing urgent treatment must be performed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional where you are located. We can provide remote communication and coordination, but this does not replace an in-person medical assessment. Patients should seek prompt local medical attention for symptoms such as fever, increasing pain, spreading redness, shortness of breath, significant swelling, bleeding or discharge from a wound.17. How do you ensure patients understand and consent to their procedures?
Information is provided through written materials, discussions with the Destination Beauty team, surgeon consultations and hospital consent documents. We aim to explain the procedure, expected recovery, likely scarring, limitations, alternatives and material risks. Our educational content also shows the realities of recovery, including swelling, bruising, dressings and scars. Consent is an ongoing process. Patients can ask questions, request more time, decline a recommended procedure or decide not to proceed before surgery.18. Will I be pressured to book or add procedures?
You should never feel pressured to book surgery or add a procedure. During your consultation, the surgeon will ask about your concerns and may explain different treatment options. These are recommendations for you to consider—not requirements. You may choose fewer procedures, request another opinion or decide not to proceed. We want every decision to be informed and voluntary.19. Can I speak with a previous patient?
Yes. Subject to availability and consent, we can introduce you to a previous patient who is willing to share their personal experience. We will try to connect you with someone who had a similar procedure or travelled under similar circumstances. Their experience can be helpful, but it should not be treated as a prediction or guarantee of your own outcome.20. How are patient concerns and complaints handled?
The first point of contact is our helpdesk. You will be asked to explain your concern and provide any relevant photographs, documents or medical information. Your case will then be assigned to the appropriate team for review. Depending on the concern, this may involve patient support staff, management, the surgeon, the hospital or another medical professional. We aim to understand the concern, communicate respectfully and identify what support or next steps may be appropriate. Medical concerns are assessed separately from service or administrative complaints.21. What happens if I am unhappy with my result?
Healing takes time. Swelling, firmness, scar changes and asymmetry may remain visible during the first several months and can continue to improve for up to a year or longer. Unless there is an urgent medical concern, the final result should not normally be assessed too early. After an appropriate healing period—often around six months—you may request a formal surgical review. The surgeon will assess your result, healing, original surgical plan and expectations before advising whether further treatment may be appropriate.22. What is your approach to revision surgery?
We are open to working constructively with patients when a result may benefit from further assessment or treatment. Revision surgery may be considered when the surgeon identifies a significant concern that is unlikely to improve with further healing. It is not automatically recommended for minor asymmetry, normal scarring, expected healing changes or a result that falls within the reasonable limitations discussed before surgery. Each request is reviewed individually. If revision surgery is offered, we will clearly explain the proposed procedure, likely benefits, additional risks and any surgeon, hospital, implant, accommodation or travel costs before the patient decides whether to proceed.23. What are the booking, cancellation and rescheduling terms?
Before booking, you must complete the evaluation process and discuss the proposed treatment plan with your Destination Beauty representative. If you accept the preliminary recommendation and quotation, you may request a surgery date. A non-refundable booking deposit is required to confirm the reservation, subject to the terms provided with your quotation and invoice. The remaining payment is generally due eight weeks before surgery. Advance payment also reduces the risk of international card limits or declined high-value transactions immediately before treatment. Cancellation, rescheduling and refund eligibility depend on the timing and circumstances. Please read the applicable terms carefully before making a payment and ask us about anything you do not understand.24. What improvements have you made based on patient feedback?
Patient feedback has contributed to ongoing improvements in our education, facilities, communication and recovery support. Recent developments include:- An in-hotel wound-care clinic
- A dental centre at Somerset
- A skin and wellness centre offering selected treatments that may support scar management and recovery when clinically appropriate
- Additional surgeons, nurses and patient-support personnel
- Dedicated team members working at the recovery hotel and partner hospitals
- Continued improvements to our helpdesk and complaint-handling process
- Expanded patient education about risks, recovery, aftercare and realistic expectations
