20 Years of Destination Beauty: A Journey Shared by 35,000 Patients

Destination Beauty Surgeons Team

In 2026, Destination Beauty proudly celebrates 20 years of helping international patients access plastic surgery, weight-loss surgery and supported recovery in Thailand.

What began in 2006 with procedures such as breast augmentation, tummy tucks and liposuction has grown into a complete international patient experience—bringing together experienced medical professionals, leading partner hospitals, dedicated recovery facilities, structured aftercare and a supportive patient community.

During these 20 years, approximately 35,000 people from around the world have travelled with Destination Beauty. Most have come from Australia and New Zealand, together with patients from the United States and many other countries.

Behind that number are 35,000 individual stories. Every patient arrived with different hopes, concerns and reasons for wanting change. Some wanted to restore their body after pregnancy or ageing. Others wanted to improve their health through weight-loss surgery or complete their transformation following significant weight loss.

Every journey is personal, and every patient places considerable trust in the people supporting them.

How the Destination Beauty journey began

When Destination Beauty began in 2006, most patients travelled to Bangkok for individual plastic surgery procedures. Breast augmentation, tummy tucks and liposuction were among the most frequently requested treatments.

As the number of patients grew, we gained a deeper understanding of what international patients need—not only during surgery, but throughout preparation and recovery.

A patient travelling overseas for surgery needs more than an appointment with a surgeon. They need clear information, realistic expectations, safe and appropriate hospital care, comfortable accommodation, reliable transportation and access to postoperative support.

This understanding shaped the Destination Beauty experience we provide today.

From a patient’s initial enquiry through consultation, hospital admission, recovery and follow-up care in Bangkok, our role is to help coordinate the different parts of the journey and make the experience as organised, personal and supported as possible.

Destination Beauty does not provide hospital treatment itself. Surgery and inpatient medical care are provided by our partner hospitals and treating medical professionals. Destination Beauty coordinates the international patient journey and provides support throughout the patient’s time in Thailand.

Approximately 35,000 patient journeys

Reaching approximately 35,000 patients is an important milestone, but Destination Beauty has never been built around numbers alone.

It has been built around individual transformations.

It is the mother who feels comfortable in her body again after pregnancy. It is the person who can move more freely after losing a significant amount of weight. It is the patient who has completed an extraordinary weight-loss journey but needs help managing the physical effects of excess skin.

It is also the person who arrives alone and uncertain, then discovers a community of people going through similar experiences.

Our patients have helped shape Destination Beauty. Their feedback, experiences and recovery journeys have influenced how we coordinate consultations, hospital admissions, accommodation, transportation, aftercare and communication.

Over 20 years, we have learned that good care includes listening, improving and recognising that every patient’s recovery will be different.

Helping people become healthier through weight-loss surgery

Since 2017, an important part of our development has been helping people living with obesity improve their health and quality of life through weight-loss surgery.

Approximately 8,000 patients have undergone weight-loss surgery through Destination Beauty’s services.

Based on an estimated average loss of approximately 37.5 kilograms per patient, these patients have collectively lost around 300,000 kilograms.

That is an extraordinary number, but the real transformation cannot be measured in kilograms alone.

For many patients, weight loss may mean improved mobility, greater energy and the ability to participate more fully in family, work and everyday life. It may allow someone to return to activities they had given up or reduce some of the physical and emotional burdens associated with obesity.

Weight-loss surgery is not an easy or automatic solution. It is a medical tool that requires long-term commitment, dietary changes, appropriate follow-up and personal responsibility. Results vary, and no individual amount of weight loss or health outcome can be guaranteed.

For thousands of our patients, however, weight-loss surgery has represented the beginning of a new chapter.

Becoming a destination for complex skin-removal surgery

For many patients, losing a substantial amount of weight is only the first stage of their transformation.

Significant weight loss may leave large amounts of loose and heavy skin around the abdomen, arms, thighs, breasts, back and lower body. Excess skin can cause discomfort, restricted movement, skin irritation, infections and difficulties with hygiene. It may also prevent a person from fully appreciating what they have achieved.

As we followed our weight-loss patients through their journeys, we recognised a growing need for experienced post-massive-weight-loss body-contouring and skin-removal surgery.

Destination Beauty has therefore developed a particular focus on complex and extensive procedures such as:

  • Extended and 360-degree tummy tucks
  • Lower-body and upper-body lifts
  • Arm and thigh lifts
  • Breast lifts and reductions
  • Back and bra-line lifts
  • Mons lifts
  • Combined and staged body-contouring procedures

Post-weight-loss surgery is very different from undergoing one smaller cosmetic procedure. Patients may require several operations or, when medically appropriate, carefully selected combinations of procedures during one surgical journey.

These can be lengthy and invasive operations. They require realistic planning, appropriate patient selection, experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeons, suitable hospital care and structured postoperative support.

Destination Beauty has become a trusted provider and coordinator of these journeys, particularly for patients from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeons

Destination Beauty works with a team of Thai board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons, including Dr NJ, Dr Ring, Dr Jaturporn, Dr Angkana, Dr Weerachai, Dr Pasu, Dr Suprakit, Dr Book, Dr Kasemsak, Dr Tawan, Dr Kittinpong and Dr Weerakarn.

Collectively, the surgeons have extensive experience across plastic and reconstructive surgery, including body contouring, breast surgery, facial surgery and complex post-massive-weight-loss procedures.

The most appropriate surgeon and surgical plan depend on the patient’s medical history, anatomy, objectives and the procedures being considered.

A preliminary proposal may change after the surgeon has examined the patient in person. Some procedures may be added, reduced, postponed or considered unsuitable. The final decision must always be based on the treating surgeon’s assessment of what can be performed responsibly.

A complete recovery concept in Bangkok

Surgery is an important event, but recovery is a process.

Destination Beauty has developed a comprehensive and intensive aftercare concept for patients during their time in Bangkok. Depending on the procedure and individual clinical needs, the journey may include:

  • Longer hospital admissions following major procedures
  • Care from the hospital’s nursing and medical teams
  • Scheduled postoperative hospital appointments
  • Wound assessments and dressing changes
  • Access to Destination Beauty’s medical support team
  • Recovery accommodation at Somerset in Bangkok
  • Transport between the airport, hospital and accommodation
  • Additional medical assessment when required

Patients recovering at Somerset stay in spacious serviced apartments rather than standard hotel rooms. This provides more space, privacy and practical facilities during a recovery period that may last several weeks.

For major skin-removal surgery and combined procedures, patients will typically remain in Thailand for approximately three to four weeks, depending on the surgeon’s advice and their individual recovery.

Our structured in-person aftercare applies while patients remain in our care in Thailand. Before returning home, patients receive guidance about their continued recovery and the importance of seeking local medical assessment if a concern develops after departure.

Remote communication can support a patient, but it cannot replace an in-person medical examination when one is required.

Recovery is better when it is shared

One of the most distinctive parts of the Destination Beauty experience is the community that develops between patients.

Travelling overseas for surgery can feel daunting and lonely, particularly for someone travelling without a companion. We believe that patients often benefit from meeting other people going through a similar experience.

Patients may first meet in the hospital ward and then continue supporting one another at Somerset. Destination Beauty creates opportunities for patients to connect through breakfasts, afternoon teas, informal visits and other social activities.

They share stories, concerns, advice and laughter. They celebrate milestones together and support one another through the more difficult days of recovery.

Many patients arrive in Bangkok alone but return home with friendships that continue long after their recovery.

Surgery is not only a physical journey. Patients may experience excitement, discomfort, uncertainty, vulnerability and pride—sometimes within the same week.

We believe care should acknowledge these emotional and social aspects of recovery. There will be struggles as well as victories, and both can be easier when shared with people who understand.

Our philosophy is simple: we want patients to recover with care, companionship and moments of happiness.

A new dental and skin center at Somerset

In 2025, Destination Beauty opened its own dental and skin center within Somerset, adding another convenient element to the patient experience.

The center allows suitable patients to access selected dental, dermatological and aesthetic treatments within the same building where they are recovering.

Dental treatments may include examinations, cleaning, whitening, veneers, crowns, dental implants and All-on-4 or All-on-6 implant solutions. For some patients, dental care can form part of a more complete facial transformation alongside facial surgery and skin treatments.

Our skin center offers services that may include CO₂ laser skin resurfacing, Thermage, anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, skin boosters, intravenous vitamin and hydration therapies, hair and scalp treatments, and treatments intended to stimulate hair growth.

The center can also assess postoperative scars and recommend suitable scar-management options once the patient has healed sufficiently. These may include professional scar care, laser treatment or other therapies based on clinical assessment.

Dental, skin and hair treatments are not suitable for every patient, and timing is particularly important when treatments are combined with surgery. All services require individual assessment and must be coordinated around the patient’s health, surgical plan and stage of recovery.

Honest expectations and informed decisions

No surgical provider can promise perfection, a complication-free recovery or a particular emotional outcome.

All surgery carries risks. These risks can be greater when procedures are extensive, several procedures are combined or a patient has existing medical conditions.

Patients should understand the possible risks, scarring, discomfort, limitations, recovery time and potential need for additional treatment or revision surgery before deciding to proceed.

Plastic surgery can create meaningful physical change, but it cannot guarantee happiness, confidence or a completely different life. Emotional preparation and realistic expectations are therefore important parts of the decision-making process.

Our responsibility is to provide clear information, facilitate appropriate medical assessment and support patients throughout their treatment and recovery in Thailand.

It also means continuing to learn. Not every recovery proceeds exactly as expected, and patient feedback—including feedback about difficult experiences—helps us improve our systems, education, communication and support.

Thank you for 20 remarkable years

Reaching our 20th anniversary would not have been possible without our patients, surgeons, partner hospitals, nurses, clinic teams, coordinators, drivers, hotel staff and everyone working behind the scenes.

Most importantly, we thank the approximately 35,000 patients who have trusted Destination Beauty with an important chapter of their lives.

You have helped us develop from a service primarily arranging individual plastic surgery procedures into a more complete international patient, surgery and recovery concept.

Our services have evolved considerably since 2006, but our purpose remains the same:

To make every patient’s journey in Thailand more personal, more supported and less lonely.

Here’s to our first 20 years, to the patients who made them possible and to the journeys still to come.

Approximately 35,000 international patients have travelled with Destination Beauty for plastic surgery, weight-loss surgery and related treatments during our first 20 years.

Where do Destination Beauty patients come from?

Patients travel from countries around the world. The majority have historically come from Australia and New Zealand, together with patients from the United States and other international markets.

Does Destination Beauty perform surgery?

Destination Beauty coordinates and supports the international patient journey. Surgical procedures and inpatient medical treatment are provided by appropriately qualified medical professionals at our partner hospitals in Thailand.

Are the plastic surgeons board-certified?

Destination Beauty works with Thai board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons. The appropriate surgeon depends on the procedure, the patient’s circumstances and the surgeon’s assessment of suitability.

What procedures can Destination Beauty arrange?

Procedures may include plastic and reconstructive surgery, weight-loss surgery, dental care and selected dermatological and aesthetic treatments.

Plastic surgery options include breast surgery, tummy tucks, body lifts, post-weight-loss skin removal, arm and thigh lifts, liposuction, facelifts, neck lifts and other facial or body procedures. Availability and suitability depend on individual medical assessment.

How many weight-loss surgery patients has Destination Beauty helped?

Approximately 8,000 patients have undergone weight-loss surgery through Destination Beauty’s services, with a major focus on these procedures since 2017.

How was the estimate of 300,000 kilograms lost calculated?

It is an estimate based on approximately 8,000 patients losing an average of around 37.5 kilograms each.

Actual weight loss varies considerably and depends on the procedure, starting weight, health, nutrition, lifestyle and long-term adherence to medical advice. No individual result is guaranteed.

What is post-massive-weight-loss skin-removal surgery?

Following substantial weight loss, some people are left with excess skin around areas including the abdomen, breasts, arms, thighs, back and lower body.

Body-contouring surgery removes or reshapes some of this excess tissue. Procedures may be performed individually, in carefully selected combinations or across several surgical stages.

Can several skin-removal procedures be performed during one trip?

In selected cases, more than one procedure may be performed during the same journey. Combining procedures can increase the physical demands and risks of surgery and recovery.

The decision must be made by the treating surgeon after considering the patient’s health, anatomy, planned operating time and overall risk. Not everyone will be suitable for combined surgery.

Where do patients recover after leaving the hospital?

Many Destination Beauty patients recover in serviced apartments at Somerset in Bangkok. The building also contains Destination Beauty’s medical facilities and its dental and skin center.

How long do patients stay in Thailand?

The appropriate stay depends on the procedures performed and the treating medical team’s advice.

Patients undergoing major skin-removal or combined surgery will typically remain in Thailand for approximately three to four weeks. Less extensive procedures may require a shorter stay.

What aftercare is available in Bangkok?

Depending on individual needs, aftercare may include hospital admission, nursing care while admitted, postoperative consultations, wound assessments, dressing changes, clinic support and transportation to scheduled appointments.

The precise aftercare plan depends on the procedure, hospital, surgeon and patient’s recovery.

What happens if a patient develops a complication?

If a concern develops while the patient remains in Destination Beauty’s care in Thailand, the patient may be assessed by the clinic team, treating surgeon or partner hospital.

Treatment may include medication, additional wound care, investigation, hospital readmission or a further procedure when medically necessary. Patients should report concerns promptly and follow the treating medical team’s advice.

Does aftercare continue after a patient leaves Thailand?

Destination Beauty’s in-person aftercare services apply during the patient’s stay in Thailand.

After returning home, patients may remain in contact with the team for general recovery coordination and communication with their treating provider. However, remote communication cannot replace an in-person examination. Patients with urgent or significant concerns must seek assessment from an appropriate local healthcare provider.

Can patients travel alone?

Many patients travel alone and meet other patients during their stay. Whether this is appropriate depends on the procedure, mobility and expected recovery needs.

Some patients may be advised to bring a support person. This should be discussed before travel.

What social activities are available?

Depending on patient schedules and stages of recovery, Destination Beauty may arrange breakfasts, afternoon teas, informal gatherings and other opportunities to connect.

Participation is optional and should always be guided by the patient’s comfort, energy and medical recovery requirements.

Does Destination Beauty have its own dental and skin center?

Yes. Destination Beauty opened its own dental and skin center within Somerset in 2025.

The center makes it more convenient for suitable patients to access selected dental, dermatological, aesthetic and postoperative scar-care services during their stay.

What treatments are available at the skin center?

Depending on individual assessment, treatments may include CO₂ laser resurfacing, Thermage, anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, skin boosters, intravenous vitamin and hydration therapies, hair and scalp treatments and therapies intended to stimulate hair growth.

Does the skin center provide treatments for surgical scars?

Yes. The skin center can assess postoperative scars and recommend treatment when clinically appropriate.

The options and timing depend on the procedure, the location and condition of the scar, how long it has been healing and the patient’s individual skin characteristics.

Are surgical, dental, skin or hair-treatment results guaranteed?

No. Results, healing, scarring and recovery vary between individuals. No provider can guarantee a particular surgical, cosmetic, dental, skin, scar or hair-growth outcome.

Patients should receive an individual consultation explaining the expected benefits, limitations, risks, recovery requirements and possible need for further treatment before proceeding.
