But just because it’s affordable doesn’t mean you’re going to get rushed through on a conveyor belt or something. Quite the opposite, Cheri – like most of our friends that make the trip – was very impressed by the service she received at the hospital and incredibly impressed by the doctors and surgeons.
As she says, “You know, the surgeons and doctors at the hospitals, everyone, knew exactly what they were doing. You were always at ease over there.”

“Destination Beauty and everything they did for us and the prices and the Tour and the love you got…I was sitting in this room a year ago, thinking am I gonna do this? Can I go to Bangkok? You know, it’s a foreign country, but it’s like being at home. I actually felt like I was at home with my girlfriends. It was family. It actually felt like my family. I never once felt intimidated in Bangkok and I never once felt that there was anything to worry about or that there was anything to be afraid of.”

Of course there are always hiccups here and there when you travel, but Destination Beauty’s representatives and our travel manager were able to sort out even the last minute emergencies as painlessly as possible.
“I missed my first flight, ever!” Cheri exclaims when talking about the ordeal. “I got my dates wrong and I missed my flight, but on THAI Airways for $150 they switched me on the next flight out. Don’t miss your flight. I rang up Toey and I was like, ‘I’m stuck in Australia’ and Lloyd (our travel manager) was like, ‘This happens all the time.’ So that was fine.”

“The good thing (about the Group Tour) is they don’t actually organize too much for you, because you just want to go shopping. We were shopping all day, every day, until we couldn’t carry our bags, until our feet hurt…The shopping is like $5 for everything!”
In the end, Cheri’s very happy with her results, as she mentions when describing them as awesome, but how was she after her procedure? You might be surprised to find out that her experience was pretty typical:
“I was out shopping the next day,” she told us. “I was back at work as soon as I got back. Don’t want to be back at work, but, yeah, went back to work. I reckon you could go back to work in two days if you were living in Bangkok.”
Of course, even with great results like that, some of the doctors back in Australia grumbled, as they will, over her choice to go to Bangkok, but in the end she received rave reviews from an Australian doctor for the quality of the work she had done in Bangkok.
“Actually I went to a doctor when I got back to Australia and they looked at me like I was a freak of nature. The doctor looked at me and he was like, ‘Oh no no no, why did you go to Bangkok?’ and I’m like, ‘They’re amazing surgeons over there. Why wouldn’t you? they do this in their everyday lives, this is normal for them.’ The first time I ever felt wrong about what I did was when I got back to Australia, to an Australian doctor,” Cheri recounts, expressing a common and unfortunate problem that people run into back home. Still she stuck to her guns, “That kind of really peeved me off, so the next time I went and saw and Australian lady doctor and I said, ‘You know, I had this done, can you just have a look at my incisions and just tell me what you think?’ and she said, ‘They’re the cleanest incisions I’ve ever seen.’ She said they were perfect – and you can barely see them.”
