Do you feel that your chin isn’t shaped right in relation to the rest of your face? Does this cause tremendous anxiety or even embarrassment? Surely, a “weak” or receding chin can make your neck look too fleshy and your nose bigger than it really is. It can also adversely affect the way your other facial features appear. Good thing, there’s a sure and safe surgical solution to improve your jaw line and help balance the shape and features of your face – a chin implant or chin augmentation surgery.

What are Chin Implants?
Chin implants are usually made of solid silicone or some other manufactured material designed to augment the chin and give you a pleasing, well-proportioned look that appears natural. Silicone is a material that is tolerated well by the body. It is non-toxic and does not generally induce any adverse reactions on the body.
Implants are used to supplement the existing bone in front of the jaw beneath the teeth. They are inserted through a pocket created by incisions done by your surgeon.
This fairly simple procedure begins with your surgeon making a small incision under your chin or along your lower lip. This is the pocket where the implant will be inserted. After implant is inserted, incisions are then sutured shut.
Chin implant surgery can be done as an individual procedure or in combination with other surgeries such as a rhinoplasty for better overall results. When done on its own, chin implant surgery takes just 30 minutes to an hour to complete. You’ll be under local anesthesia with sedation for this procedure and you don’t need to stay overnight at the hospital after.
Preparing for Chin Implant
You have to be physically fit to be a candidate for chin implant surgery. You’re at an increased risk of complications if you suffer from conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart and lung problems. You need to be totally open about your medical history during consultation with your surgeon.
Chin augmentation can dramatically improve your appearance but it doesn’t make you look perfect. It’s important to bear this in mind if you’re considering this type of surgery. Discuss with your surgeon the results you expect and he should be able to tell you whether what you want is realistic or not.
Your surgeon will give you specific instructions and advice on what to do and what to avoid during the weeks leading up to your operation. If you’re a smoker, you’ll be asked to stop two weeks before surgery. If you’re under medication, you’ll also most likely be told to regulate or stop altogether. You’ll also be advised to eat healthy and keep your body in shape to help you recover faster and heal better.
Also as part of your preparation, your surgeon will brief you on what to expect and how to care for yourself after surgery.
What to Expect After a Chin Implant in Thailand
Chin implant surgery is not a major procedure and recovery takes a shorter time as compared to most cosmetic surgery techniques. However, you will still feel some side effects which are but minor and normally temporary.
You’ll experience some soreness and swelling in your chin area for several days and you may find smiling and talking difficult during this period. Any discomfort you feel can be managed by medication prescribed by your surgeon.

You can resume normal activity shortly after surgery but you must refrain from heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. You should also take great care in avoiding undue force and pressure on your chin, as well as activities that may involve your face being exposed.
Your surgeon will tell you everything you need to know about rest and recovery, including instructions on dental hygiene and diet restrictions.
As with other surgical procedures, chin implant surgery carries inherent risks. They are, however, very rare. Some complications associated with this type of procedure include infection, allergic reaction to anesthesia and improper healing of the wounds. In some cases, a chin implant can shift out of alignment and revision surgery may be necessary.
Having Chin Implant in Thailand – like most other procedures – can cost up to 70% less than what it costs in places like America, Australia, England, Sweden, Denmark and elsewhere.
