Are You A Good Candidate For A Breast Lift in Thailand?

Breast Lift Surgery, also known as mastopexy, can give your drooping breasts a youthful and shapely appearance.  While Breast Lift Surgery in Thailand, or anywhere for that matter, focuses on tightening up sagging breasts and won’t increase your breast size, it can combined in many cases with other procedures such as Breast Augmentation here in Bangkok or Phuket.  Matching up your expectations with the probable results is a major part of the pre-surgery process that you will go through, so keep in mind what a Breast Lift in Thailand will do and won’t do for you as you approach the final decision on whether to have surgery – realistic expectations about your results cannot be overemphasized!

In considering what makes you a good candidate, there are a few broad rules to keep in mind:

  • Breast Lift Surgery is generally only available to those who have fully developed breasts
  • If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, still lactating or planning to have children then you really should wait a while to consider the surgery
  • You will need to be in good general health in order to undergo surgery
  • If you are suffering from cellulitis or infection in the soft tissue of the breast you may not be a good candidate
  • If you currently have breast cancer, or dry, broken or hardened breast skin, then you are probably also not a good candidate at this time
  • In some cases, but not all, diabetes can be a concern in your caandidacy, but this is something that the surgeon will assess for you personally

Still, you should speak with us so that we can give you a personal opinion and so that we can match you up with a real Thai Plastic Surgeon before making your decision, as there are many factors to consider!  You’re unique and so is your personal situation, so there’s only one answer that’s right for you.  That’s something that that the surgeon will evaluate during your Breast Lift Surgery consultation (which is peformed virtually – don’t worry!).

What Happens During Your Breast Lift Surgery?

There are several methods used in performing Breast Lift Surgery and your surgeon will determine beforehand which is appropriate for you – though Breast Lift Surgery in Thailand is performed using the same common techniques that are used in Breast Lift Surgery in Australia, England, Canada and in any other country with top quality plastic surgeons, so you don’t need to worry about the skill of the surgeons.

The most common technique used in Breast Lift Surgery involves your surgeon making three incisions which form an “anchor shape” that allows him to remove the excess skin, fat and tissue of the breast and to then move the nipple and areola to a higher position, giving it a natural look.  The skin around the areola is then drawn together, which helps reshape the breast. After your surgeon is done adjusting everything and shaping your breasts properly he will close the incisions with stitches and the procedure is pretty much over!

The entire procedure will be carried out while you’re under a general anesthetic and usually takes two to three hours to complete for both breasts, though every situation is unique and the length of your surgery will depend on your exact situation.  Once you’ve awoken, you’ll be required to stay for an additional night at the hospital after the operation so that the staff can keep an eye on you and make sure your recovery’s getting off to a healthy start.

What Is Your Recovery After Breast Lift Surgery Like?

Your recovery is based on your personal situation, but most people have a fairly common set of results.  How you take care of yourself and how closely you follow your surgeon’s pre-op and post-op instructions will significantly affect how fast and how well you recuperate.

What are some common side-effects?

  • You will feel a little tired and sore for the first few days, but this should begin to subside quickly
  • Your breasts may feel tender and swollen during the first few days following your surgery
  • You might notice a little loss of feeling in your nipples after the surgery, but feeling returns in most cases

These are all normal symptoms, common to the procedure, so you shouldn’t be alarmed if you feel a little tender after you begin your recovery.  Still, you should know that whatever pain and discomfort you feel will be managed by the prescription medicines administered by the surgeon and staff and covered under the cost of your surgery.

Moving forward, you will have your follow-up check-up about 7 days after your surgery.  At this time, your stitches will be removed.  As well, you will have a light dressing to cover the incisions on your breast.  This will be removed after about two weeks.  You may also be advised to wear a sports bra, which fastens up the front, until your breasts have sufficiently healed. This will probably last for about a month.

Fluids may seep from the wounds at first, but this is normal and any scarring you have should be small, but firm, for a few weeks before it begins to gradually fade and become unnoticeable.

When it comes to activity, you should be able to return to your normal routine about a week after your surgery. Still, make sure to follow the instructions given to you and to avoid heavy lifting, any harsh contact with the breasts and all strenuous activities (including sex!) until your wounds have sufficiently healed.

And, if you experience any unusual pain, bleeding and/or shortness of breath, you should immediately contact your surgeon here in Thailand or your family doctor at home if you’ve already returned home – and let us know as well, either way!

What Are The Possible Risks & Complications of A Breast Lift?

Most common surgical side effects are normal, temporary and usually relatively minor consequences of the Breast Lift Procedure. Some of the most common side effects of mastopexy are nausea following anesthesia, scarring, soreness, bruising and burning sensation in the nipples – all of which should subside during recovery.

Complications, on the other hand, are more serious but are also statistically rare. They can occur during, or just after operation and although Breast Lift Surgery is very common and very safe, there is still a small window for complications to set in and you should be aware of this in making your decision. Possible complications related to Breast Lift Surgery include infection, excessive bleeding, severe pain, bad reaction to anesthesia, undersensitive or oversensitive nipples, hematoma, and keloids. If you have complications, your ability to produce milk may also be affected.  Again, these complications are rare, but they do exist and should be considered when making the choice to have elective surgery.

What Results Should You Expect From Your Breast Lift?

While the results of Breast Lift Surgery are not permanent, they should last for quite a long time. What this means is that your newly-contoured breasts will retain their improved shape for several years.  Though keep in mind that eventually age will take its toll again – and that pregnancy or radical weight loss/weight gain can and will in most cases have a direct effect on the results of your surgery.

Your age and general health also  affect the results of your surgery. Younger, healthier women usually have better results because their breasts are firmer and more toned, although our partner surgeons here in Thailand will be able to advise you more on how to achieve optimal results for your body.

As we mentioned, gravity and the aging process will eventually cause your breast to lose tone and skin elasticity and your breasts will begin to droop again, but in this case a repeat procedure is possible, so don’t worry.

After your health concerns, the most important thing in any plastic surgery is understanding your results and managing your expectations.  The vast majority of our clients report great results and can’t believe what a positive change Breast Lift Surgery in Thailand has had on their chest, but sometimes people who are in need of a lot of work can expect a little too much from the procedure.  That’s human and we understand fully, but it’s important for you to listen carefully to what the surgeon says and what we counsel you on, because managing your expectations means that you will more likely be happy with the outcome of your procedure.
